Topic: Building a Budget house

Dear Sir,
First and foremost i would like to say that this website is very informative and probably the best in indian house construction context.
I want to construct a 2nd floor on my house. the construction area is about 100sq. feet. A contractor has given me an estimate of about 12 -13L(fully furnished).
But I am on a tight budget so I am thinking of building it on my own. I have no experience in house building. So would it be a good idea and if yes then how much money do you think i can save in a very basic structure with ceiling, door, windows and walls if i decide to go without a contractor.
Also if i plan to do so what all challenges can i face.

Vinay Join date: Feb 2014	Thank you sir for your reply. Apart from the cost part what could be technical aspect of construction that should be familiar with before getting the work done on my own. (basically as per my understanding i want to hire a "rajmistry" and do the work of a "thekedar" on my own. Second part of my question is " is it possible to get technical help for hourly or daily basis?"
