THE ESTIMATOR IN THIS PORTAL IS A VERY USEFUL TOOL WHICH CAN ENABLE A PERSON TO CORRECTLY ASSESS HIS FINANCE POSITION AND BUDGET BEFORE COMMENCING WITH A PROJECT.I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE RATES GENERATED BY THE UTILITY FOR ITEMS LIKE STEEL,CEMENT, SAND ETC ARE THE CURRENT PREVAILING MARKET RATES OR ARE GENERAL IN NATURE. IN OTHER WORDS HOW MUCH WILL THE FINAL COST VARY IN PERCENTAGE TERMS.

          The rates provided in the estimate is general market rates, as the rates are changed from city to city. Also the rates are dependent on the total area of the plot and do not account the changes in architectural or structual drawings.  For example, if some one is building a 1000 Square feet home with 2 rooms versus a 1000 square feet 4 room home then the cost of the four room home will be more. The rough estimator is provided so that we know that such estimation techniques exist. To get exact estimate that would give you quanity with less than 5% variance and cost according to your city you have to get a detailed cost estimate as per drawing. Using the rough estimate you can see the general breakup and have some idea as to whether your contractor is in line with the breakup or if he is charging way too high.
