 Topic: Hi. I am constructing the first floor of my house. I will be laying floor in the
Hi. I am constructing the first floor of my house. I will be laying floor in the next few days. The usual practice is to first install a layer of of broken bricks (rodi) before putting on tiles or marble. Because it is the first floor so already have concrete slab ( that is roof) on which floor has to be laid on, I am not able to understand the purpose of putting a layer of 'rodi'. Won't it add on an extra layer of unnecessary weight on the roof. Kindly help.

        Laying lean concrete i.e. (Rodi) or brick ballast serves two purpose.
1. To provide rough surface for floor which is necessary for proper binding of floor material.
2. To provide space for any types of pipe or wire etc.
3. To maintain slope.
