Hi,

I have a 3 BHK house in 30x50 site constructed without pillars. The portico is of 10ft x 14ft (10 is length, 14 is width). I have problem for car parking as at least a 13ft Length would have been better.
I am planning to modify my house. The portico would be now 13ft x 30ft.
So I am need pillars (columns) to support this huge span of RCC slab.
Also I am keen to know is it possible to now put pillars from base of foundation may be by drilling etc for the rest of the house?

Dear Mr. Chandrakanth,

You could also consider the option of putting steel columns to support the weight of the slab rather than the conventional concrete columns.

          First of all prepare the modified drawing i.e. addition and alteration drawing according to your requirement with the help of architect.
The 2nd step is contact any structural engineer who can see the possibility of change after visiting the the site of your constructed house and instruction or explore the possibility of changes made in old construction.
  In my view this is the proper way to make addition and alteration without compromising the strength of the building.
   By putting columns without proper planing serve no purpose.
