Topic: start construction Steel use

Dear Sir,

I want to built house in plot size of 15’ * 30’ (parking + 4 floor) (extinction of 3 feet in balcony) attached drawing on floor plan.

I want to know how much steel (tmt) used in each RCC column/ pillar.

We want to use

8 nos 16 mm for 12” * 9” (upto parking + 1 & 2 floor after that 6 nos 16 mm ) in 5 pillar.

10 nos of 16 mm in corner pillar for extra strength.

4 nos 16 mm + 2 12 mm 9 for 9” * 9” pillar

8mm ring in 6” distant in parking. After that 8mm ring in 8” distance.

Please suggest is this sufficient.

Sir please suggests should we use down column (latk beem)  (4 nos 16 mm + 2 no 12 mm) in lenter or use flat column (4 nos 16 mm).

Sir please suggests the ratio of cement concrete for pillar & linter. And brand of cement. (PPC or OPC).

Dear Inder

When you are constructing a 5 story building with investing more than Rs 50 lacs than I did not under stand that after taking a plan from architect, you do not want a structural drawing from structural engineer who gives the position of coluns beams and slab with their sizes and the requirement of steel bars and also have concern about earth quack while designing. After getting structural drawing you feel that there is saving and safety is main concern.

Use OPC CEMENT and ratio of cement concrete should be 1;1.5;3. The concrete should be mechenically mixed and vibrated.See gharexpert web site construction section for more knowledge about construction.

Carbon and other elements act as a hardening agent, preventing dislocations in the iron atom crystal lattice from sliding past one another. Varying the amount of alloying elements and the form of their presence in the steel (solute elements, precipitated phase) controls qualities such as the hardness, ductility, and tensile strength of the resulting steel. Steel with increased carbon content can be made harder and stronger than iron, but such steel is also less ductile than iron.

Alloys with a higher than 2.1% carbon content are known as cast iron because of their lower melting point and good castability.[1] Steel is also distinguishable from wrought iron, which can contain a small amount of carbon, but it is included in the form of slag inclusions. Two distinguishing factors are steel's increased rust resistance and better weldability.

Iron is found in the Earth's crust only in the form of an ore, usually an iron oxide, such as magnetite, hematite etc. Iron is extracted from iron ore by removing the oxygen and combining the ore with a preferred chemical partner such as carbon. This process, known as smelting, was first applied to metals with lower melting points, such as tin, which melts at approximately 250 and copper, which melts at approximately 1,100.
