Topic: Use of Solid Concrete Bricks

Dear All,

I would like to have some advice on the use of solid concrete bricks. This is because I have observed the building constructed out of this bricks develop cracks mostly along the joints between the connection with columns.

Actually I am also thinking to use this bricks because of its cost compared to red bricks. Therefore, please can anyone help me or some tips to avoid such cracks.

Regards

Post subject: Usage of wall plastering mesh

Hi Kinsley

I am attaching a typical picture of the kind of mesh that you could use for this purpose. As you would know from simple physics, material of different type (Concrete & Brick) would have different levels of expansions and contractions which causes the crack.

So a mesh of appropriate width lets say 4-6 inches can be fixed to the concrete and brick wall surface where this meets througout the entire length or width in such a way that half of the width of the mesh is nailed with a washer onto the concrete firmly and the other half is fixed to the brick work similarly with nails.  Then plastering can be done over this as usual so that the mesh does the act of holding the plaster across the concrete and brick firmly.

Hope my explanations and attached pictures helps you.

Dear Kinley

It is right to treat the cracks as Sh jawahar and Purvi is explained. I am in view that you should make groves 1/4'' wide and 1/2'' deep between columns and wall, when some crack letter on apear willbe within the grove made in between the two masses/ materials. It willbe best and economical solution and adds the beauty of the elevation. Read more about at gharexpert website insafety section under the sub section cracks.
