Topic: Pillar & plinth beam frame work avoiding stone foundation

Hello Sir,

I am not a Civil Engineer and i have no experience in construction field at all. So please excuse my poor way of asking the question. I am constructing house in bangalore with help of my friend who is the engineer.

Want to know why this method of construction is better?

I was told by my engineer that there is no need of stone foundation instead he said that he will raise pillar(columns) from foundation level and do a plinth beam frame work on the ground level. I am building a 3 storey house which consist of Stilt floor and duplex on the top.

But my understanding was when they raise the pillars they link the pillars with stone foundation. Once it is done they do the plinth beam framework on the gound level. When i asked this question to my engineer he said this method better.

I have attached the picture.

Thanks,
Tej Patil

Dear
In the frame work building, raise the columns/ pillars up to ground level and joint all the pillars with plinth beam, also lay beam for walls to be constructed at ground if any according to plan. In the beam where we want to construct the wall additional reinforcement will be laid.

Hello Gupta Sir,

Thank you for your response. I want to know is this safe because usually in building foundation they link pillars at foundation level i mean below the ground. But here my engineer is not linking the pillars below the ground instead he is constructing the plinth beam frame work at the ground level. I just want to know why this is ? Is it safe during earthqaukes, also does this bear the weight of the duplex on the first floor ?

Thank You,
Tej

Dear
The safety against earth quake for laying beam at plinth level is o. k.As you want safety for duplex, the weight is to be bear by columns/ pillars.not by plinth beam.

Dear Gupta Sir,

I have one more question regarding this. Please excuse me if I am repeating the question.

Since my foundation does not have Stone Foundation and I have only columns/pillars and plinth beam at ground level. Since i am construction G + 3 levels. I this a safe and strong construction or do I need Stone foundation. I am just worried.

Could you please let me know.

Thanks,
Tej Patil

Dear
The load is to be bear by RCC column / pillars no by walls.

Dear Rajeev,
In my opinion there is no use to lay RCC Beam on brick work as ultimately load is bear by the foundation below it.
