Polimer fibres in mortar

Hi guys, I have visited one construction site in a rainy terrain about a few months back. They were using polymer fibres in mortar. As per the site engineer, these polymer fibres induce elasticity in mortar and thereby reduces the possibility of formation of cracks. Can someone provide more info about this? What are the different additives available for crack prevention?.
