Pillar & plinth beam frame work avoiding stone foundation

Hello Sir,I am not a Civil Engineer and i have no experience in construction field at all. So please excuse my poor way of asking the question. I am constructing house in bangalore with help of my friend who is the engineer.  Want to know why this method of construction is better? I was told by my engineer that there is no need of stone foundation instead he said that he will raise pillar(columns).
