Advantages and Disadvantages of Wooden Door, Window, Ventilator Frames | | | | Door is a solid barrier that is fixed in a door way or opening of a wall with the help of iron lugs or hold fasts in the walls, where as windows are fixed in the wall generally at 2’-3” to 3’ high level and ventilators are fixed above door level height. Door, window and ventilator consist of two parts one part is frame of the door, window and ventilator and other part is shutter of the door, window and ventilator.

Wooden Door Frame....
Door frame consists of three members where as window and ventilator frame consists with minimum four members. The classification of door, window and ventilator frames according to material is as under.
- Wooden door, window and ventilator frame, there are many type of wood according to their qualities and cost which are used in frames.
- Aluminum door, window and ventilator frame.
- Metal door frame, window and ventilator frame.
Wood is still most popular choice of material for construction of doors, windows and ventilators because of ease of cutting, shaping and joinery with simple hand tools. There are so many advantages and some disadvantages of installing the wooden door, window and ventilator frames which are as under.
Advantages
- Wooden frames are not affected by temperature because wood have high R-values.
- Wood is bad conductor of heat and electricity so less prone to condensation.
- Wooden frames give very good or attractive looks in the building.
- They can provide any finish required by the architect.
- Wooden frames can be painted or polished in any shade.
- There is no problem of rusting in wooden frame.
- The problems of joints with frame and masonry can easily be solved by fixing wooden beading on the joints.
- Maintenance of the wooden frames is easy and cheap.
- They have long life if good quality timber is used.
- In wooden frame addition and alteration can be done easily.
- Wooden frames doors and windows are more resistance to air and wind than the metal frames as they have minimum joint in frame and shutter.
Disadvantages
- The wooden frames are affected by termite and insects.
- Cost of the good quality timber is very high. So they are costly than metal frames but cheap in the comparison of aluminum frames.
- Suppliers/contractors provide bad quality timber which has knots, rotten pieces and due to these defects the frames destroy in a short time.
- If season wood is not used than due to this there is twisting problems found in the wooden frames.
- The wooden frames are affected by the moisture.
