What type of flooring is recommended for different locations?

Traffic influences the type of flooring. People tend to go for carpet in bedrooms and in living areas.

FLOORING FOR KITCHENS/FAMILY ROOMS:

Kitchen floors take a lot of wear and tear. So your flooring should be water resistant, durable and easy to maintain.

Kitchens are the most common places for wooden flooring. However wooden floors of kitchen should be checked (sanded lightly) and re-coated on every 6-18 months depending on the amount of traffic and cleaning habits.

Note: Dark, white or bleached wooden floors are NOT suitable for kitchen because of high traffic, food & water.

A bathroom is a place where a person can feel relaxed, comfortable and at ease.

Vinyl tiles are latex backed and comfortable to walk on. They are flexible and are easy to handle and lay. They come in many colors and designs. You can use them in any room, but they are especially suited to bathrooms.

Ceramic tiles are not suitable for bathrooms as they are slippery when wet.

A bathroom that receives daily use would not be suitable for wooden floors, due to continued moisture exposure. On the other hand a guest bathroom not used on a day to day basis could be considered. Make sure to use area carpets/mats, and always immediately wipe up water.

NOTE: Rolling furniture such as chairs, TV stands etc. can damage the finish very quickly, if used day to day. Make sure the floor is protected or the rollers are not made of metal or other damaging materials. Regular maintenance is required.
