How to Install a Sink

Sink is most important and use full appliance in the kitchen. Kitchen sink is a waste appliance consist of sink/ bowl, C.I. brackets, union, drainage board and G.I. or P.V.C. waste pipe. To take more benefit, you can increase your sink utility by installing a unit more suited for your needs for example replace single bowl unit with double bowl unit or install a modern decorator sink.

• Glazed Fire-clay Kitchen Sink.
• Stainless Steel Kitchen Sink.
• Vitreous Enameled Steel Kitchen Sink.
• Marble Stone Kitchen Sink.
• R.C.C. Finished in Terrazzo Kitchen Sink.

Different Patterns of Stainless Steel Kitchen Sink:

• Single bowl without drainer.
• Double bowl without drainer.
• Single bowl with Single drainer.
• Single bowl with Double drainer.
• Double bowl with single drainer.
• Double bowl with double drainer.

Installation of Kitchen Sink:

1. The top of the sink should be at 80 to 82 cm high from floor level of kitchen.
2. The tape below sink should be at 40 cm high from floor level of kitchen.
3. Measure the space left in counter top of kitchen.
4. Arrange sink to the correct size according to existing hole.
5. Place the sink in the space left in counter top from up side and keep the top of sink 2cm or equal to the thickness of stone use in counter top below the top level of counter top.
6. Care should be taken that the sink should be parallel to the counter top and enough back to clear the over hang and face of the under lying cabinet.
7. Ensure that sink after installation will not interfere existing cabinets and supports of counter top.
8. Mark the location of sink accurately with the help of pencil.
9. Make chase in wall by chiseling to receive the top edge of sink.
10. Make groves under the counter top slab carefully with jigsaw blade to receive the top edge of sink.
11. Make 2 numbers holes in wall adjacent with bottom surface of sink for fixing brackets.
12. These holes should be 300mm on either side from the centre of sink in 750 mm long sink and 225 mm in case of 600 mm long sink.
13. The C.I. cantilever brackets should be embedded in cement concrete 1:2:4 block of size 100x75x150mm.
14. Both the brackets should be in one level and line.
15. The C.I. cantilever brackets should be embedded before dado/ wall tiles work is done.
16. Insert the sink in to the hole in the counter top to test the fitness of the sink.
17. After testing the fitting remove the sink and adjust the hole if necessary.
18. Fit the C.P.brass or P.V.C. union in the sink drainage hole as per manufacture instructions with white lead and thread.
19. Ensure that fitting should be tight having no any leakage.
20. C.P.brass or P.V.C. union should be connected to 40 mm G.I. or P.V.C.waste pipe, which should be bents to wards the wall and discharge in to floor trap.
21. Apply either sealant or white cement paste in chase and grove portion for fixing the sink.
22. Insert the sink in to the hole immediately after the application of sealant or white cement paste before it become hardened.
23. Fix the sink carefully and press down the sink in the sealant.
24. Remove extra sealant or white cement paste carefully.
25. Clean the sink, pipes and counter top with clean cloth leaving no any mark on the sink and counter top.
26. Apply wax polish on the sink and counter top.
27. Drain board one end rest on the sink and other end should be supported on C.I. brackets embedded in cement concrete 1:2:4 block of size 100 x 75 x 150mm.
28. Drain board placed in such a way that water must drain direct in to the sink.
