| | The various painting patterns for different rooms: | | | Abstract Block Painting: | | Choose an accent wall and measure the height and width, taking into account any doorways or windows. | Choose six colors to use. Draw a pattern of block shapes on a page, labeling where each color will exist after painting. | When satisfied with the pattern, scale the drawing to fit the measurements of the wall. Begin at the top and tape a shape, paint it, let it dry. | Again do the same for another shape. You will probably need a few edging brushes for touching up the colors after the tape is removed. | | Block Walls: | | Paint the entire wall white and let it dry completely. Use painters tape to measure rectangles that are 12" high x 18" wide. Leave a 2" white border between each block. | Choose five bright colors to use for the blocks. Paint blocks randomly, trying not to use the same color in two adjacent blocks. Remove tape when dry completely. | | Block Technique: | | Choose two colors, and six block colors. Divide the wall into two sections. Paint one main color on each side. There should be a distinct line between the colors. | Measure the height of the wall, and space the squares so that six colors will fit on the wall. Tape off the positioning of the squares. | Paint each square a different color, beginning with the lightest color at the top, and ending with the darkest, most intense color at the bottom. Remove tape when dry completely. | | Thick Stripes: | | Choose three different values of green color. Paint the entire wall in the lightest color. Let it dry completely | Measure the height of the wall to be painted. Take the total height and divide by 3. | For instance, if your wall is 9 high, you would paint the top of the stripe 3 from the ceiling and 3 from the wall. From the top point, measure 2" down and draw a line. | From the bottom point, measure 2" up and draw a line. This will make the 2" border around the large stripe. Paint the border in the darkest green. Then, paint the 32" stripe in the middle color you have. | Be sure to use painters tape and a level to insure straight lines. | | Horizontal Stripes Effects: | | Choose two colors of pink, one light and one dark. Paint the entire wall in the lighter color. Let it dry completely. | Measure the height of the wall. Decide how many stripes you would like to paint, and how wide they will be. Be sure you choose a number that divides evenly to your wall measurements. | For instance, if your wall is 8 (96") high, you can do 12 stripes that are 8" wide. Tape off the stripes in alternating pattern, let the wall color show through on every other stripe. | Paint the remaining stripes in your darker pink. Remove tape when it dry completely. | | Vertical Stripes Effect: | | Choose a wall color and get it in two contrasting shades. Flat and Semi-Shine will work, or if you want more shining , try Flat and Satin, then cover the Satin stripes with Decorative Effects Clear Protector (several coats). | First, paint the entire wall with the flat shining . Let it dry completely, then measure the wall horizontally. Measure stripe width, and number of stripes that will fit on the wall evenly. | Tape each alternating stripe, let the flat remain on every other one stripe . Paint the remaining stripes with the Semi-Gloss paint. | When dry remove the tape. The stripes will create a subtle, yet elegant effect. | | Two-Tone: | | Choose two colors of gold, one dark and one light. Measure the wall vertically, divide by three, and multiply by two. | For instance, for a 9 wall, 9\3 =3 x 2= 6. So, you would tape off 6" from the floor. Therefore, the color division will begin two-thirds of the way to the wall. | Paint the area above the tape with darker gold, and the bottom area with lighter gold. Let one color dry completely before taping and painting the second color. | | Painted Stairs: | | Choose one trim color and four colors for the risers. | Paint the trim and stairs first, let them dry. | Starting from the floor, paint two risers with the same color, until you have used all of the colors. | | Zigzag Technique: | | Paint the entire wall in light blue, let it dry completely. | Measure vertical center point of the wall and tape off a 6" zigzag pattern with center point of the wall. | Be sure to keep the width of the pattern consistent across the wall. | Paint the pattern green, let it dry and remove tape. | | Splatter Technique on Floor: | | Choose four or five neutral colors. Paint the entire floor with the lightest color you have, and let it dry completely. Line up the paint with the remaining colors, have a separate brush for each color. | Then, take each color and splatter it randomly across the floor. There should not be a pattern to only random, abstract splashes. Be careful to let the design dry completely before walking on it. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
