Average Height of Roof for Big Halls | | | | Average Height of Roof from Ground for Big Halls
Minimum ceiling height from the point of thermal comfort is based on the following factors.
- Radiation load of occupants.
- Required ceiling surface temperature
Safety requirement and minimum clear space for fixing ceiling fan
- Experiments show negligible effect on indoor temperature due to variation of ceiling height from 2.4 to 3.3 meter.
- Ceiling height more than 2.9 meter is not recommended.
- The rise in air temperature due to lower ceiling height can be compensated by improving thermal performance of roof.
- Reduced ceiling height may even be more comfortable for intermediate floor in multi storey building.
- Maximum height should not be more than 4 meter. Minimum height for non A.C. building should be 2.75 meter. For A C building 2.4 meter height of ceiling is suitable.

| | By Raji - On 11/4/2009 10:55:11 AM | Hi Kanan, You may have double height i.e. around 18 ft in the living room area to give your house palacial look. Rest of the rooms can be normal height. For cooling, you will have to extend the fan rods by 7-8 ft as was done in the colonial period. The room will naturally remain cool if you have big windows and ventilators in that room.If this room is in the east then provide windows on the east and west walls and see the briliant cross ventilation... rgds ritu |
