Which are various types of alarms used for the security of the house? | | | | There are four types of alarms used for the security of the house:
- Burglar alarms
- Smoke alarms
- Heat alarms
- Carbon monoxide alarms
- BURGLAR ALARMS: Burglar Alarms can be broadly categorized into 2 main groups:
- BELLS ONLY ALARMS: When the alarm is triggered by one of the alarm components, an outside bell or siren is activated. This alarm will undoubtedly inform the burglars that they have been detected and motivate them to leave.
- MONITORED ALARMS: Any alarm activation is passed to central monitoring station by your telephone. These Alarm Receiving Centers (ARC) thus alert to any potential burglary.
- SMOKE ALARMS: There are three types of smoke alarms given below:
- Photoelectric smoke alarm
- Ionization smoke alarm
- Alarms for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired
- PHOTOELECTRIC SMOKE ALARMS: Photoelectric smoke alarms see the smoke. They detect visible particles of combustion, e.g. smoldering cigarette smoke. They respond to a wide range of fires, but they are particularly responsible to smoldering fires. Such alarms also respond to the dense smoke given off by foam filled furnishings or overheated PVC wiring.
- IONISATION SMOKE ALARMS: Ionization smoke alarms feel the smoke. They detect invisible particles of combustion, e.g. from cooking toast. They activate more quickly for fast flaming fires with little visible smoke.
- ALARMS FOR THE DEAF & HEARING IMPAIRED: Conventional smoke alarms are not effective in alerting those with hearing impairments. A visual warning device which can be interconnected to the smoke/heat alarm can be obtained. Some models include an intense flashing strobe light in the control panel along with a vibration pad which can be placed under the pillow. The vibration pad will awake the sleeping occupant in an emergency. The control panel will often have an ancillary socket for attaching an additional strobe light ( to give an alarm downstairs during the day) or an extra vibration pad.
- HEAT ALARMS: There are some areas in home where smoke alarms may not be suitable, e.g. kitchen. In these areas heat alarms are suitable.
- CARBON MONOXIDE ALARM: Carbon monoxide alarms are not smoke alarms. They may be used in addition to smoke alarms for increased warning. You cant see, taste or smell this alarm but low levels of carbon monoxide can make you sick and high levels can kill. Carbon monoxide alarms are commonly used for the detection of fire in the home.
