How to hire a carpenter?

People have been in search of excellent woodwork to enrich the prettiness of their homes. You too can add to the beauty of your home with superb carpentry skills on furnishings of the house. For excellent carpentry you need to hire a professional carpenter who makes or repairs doors, windows, cabinets and other articles of furniture. Before hiring a professional carpenter, the house owner needs to keep in mind the following guidelines.

Hire local carpenters

Carpenters are craftsmen who make excellent furnishings for your home and can create wonderful carvings on wooden articles. To create sophisticated designs on furniture or repair old wood items, contact at least two or three carpenters working in your area. Before you hire them try to know about their works and working efficiency from neighbors and friends to ensure quality workmanship.

Arrange carpenter with the help of shopkeepers

Many hardware store keepers have contact nos. of several carpenters and can arrange a good carpenter for making furniture of your house. Preference should be given to the skilled carpenter while selecting them.

Decide the basis of contract with carpenter

There are two kinds of contracts i.e. one is through rate contract which includes completing the job with material and labor whereas another is labor rate contract which comprises only cost of labor. It is always better to arrange material by self and make contract on labor rate.

Settle on all works in advance

Before you hire a carpenter, all woodwork should be settled on with carpenter to avoid any arguments with him. Don’t hide anything and make any hidden cost or query clear. Don’t leave anything to happen by chance. If the woodwork is big, make a written agreement with the carpenter. If the carpenter is ready to do the job on fewer rates, he may not be reliable or punctual, hence reject him.

Don’t let the carpenter use sub standard material

In case of through rate contract the house owner needs to be vigilant for the quality of material brought by carpenter. If the carpenter tries to use sub standard material in making furniture, the material should be replaced by good one. May be you have to pay some amount in advance for procurement of material in certain cases.

Ask for actual bills of materials

Always ask for actual bills of the shops from where the material is bought or insist carpenter on buying the material from store of your confidence. Pay in proportions as the work finishes. Avoid making full payment before completion of the job.

Ask carpenter to finish the work within time

While hiring carpenter ask him for the duration of completion of job. Once the time is settled to finish the work, ask your carpenter strictly to complete the work in time. Hire a carpenter who is sure of completion of his job in given time.
