Precautions during Fabrication and Fixing of Window Grill. | | | | Fabrication of steel doors and windows should be done carefully. Even a small negligence during fabrication can deform the shape of doors and windows etc. It can also create a problem while fixing doors, windows etc. The following are useful precautions during fabrication and fixing of doors and windows.
Precautions during fabrication and fixing
1. Do fabrication according to drawing and designFabrication is done according to size, design and drawing. Before you start fabrication take actual size of doors and windows etc. Apply standard sections in fabrication works that have their mark almost at every meter. During fabrication actual required length of each member should be cut diagonally by cutter not by chisel.
When grills are fabricated, M.S. Flats, M.S. Round or Square bars are cut and bent according to required size followed by fillet welding all around the width of Flats or circumference of joined bars. At corners of Flat, proper mitered joints forming a right angle should be provided with welding.
2. Weld corners properlyThe corner should be welded by flash butt welding or metal arc welding. All joints should be finished well with grinder. In case of open-able windows projecting hinges should be fixed; which help in cleaning the windows. Pegs stay should be welded to protect glass pane from storm. In case of fixing grills in steel windows, they should be welded to window frames properly.
3. Fix accessories properlyAll fittings such as handle, tower bolt etc. should be fitted well so that they are easy in working. Proper lugs/hold fasts should be welded on frames which are fixed in the opening. The lugs are embedded in cement concrete after fixing them in side walls of the opening.
4. Fill pressed steel frames with concrete mix correctlyPressed steel frames, back side hollow portion should be filled with cement concrete mix before fixing them in opening. Check line, level and plumb of steel door windows etc. In case of fixing grills in wooden windows, ensure that they are fixed with necessary screws. Priming coat should be done on all steel windows, doors and grills etc. before fixing them.
5. Fix glass panes properly
Glass pans should be fixed with metal beading. Metal putty if used in fixing glass pans should be of approved make. At least four glazing clips may be provided for the safety of glass pan.
