Vaastu Shastra is an ancient system of designing and building the structures. It is applied for the welfare of entire humanity. It helps in maintaining a dynamic balance between Form and Energy to create harmonious homes and other buildings. It enables us to get mental peace, health, wealth etc. and makes our life happy. By using Vaastu in construction, we can make ourselves prosperous.
The principles laid down in Vastu Shastra are formulated keeping in view the cosmic influence of the Sun, its light and heat, solar energy, directions of wind, directions of the moon, magnetic field of the earth and the influence of cosmos on our planet.
Vaastu is a combination of the science of directions, Astronomy and Astrology. It reads characteristics of the houses and explains their effects on inhabitants in a scientific way. It is based on the permanent property of the earth. So the effect of the principles of Vaastu also becomes permanent. It is the science of direction that combines all the five elements of nature. It balances them with the man and the material.
Basic Elements of Vastu
The world comprises of five basic elements, known as the ‘Paanchbhootas’. They are Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Space.
1. Earth (Bhumi): The magnetic field and gravitational force of the earth has great impact on every living and lifeless objects.
2. Water (Jal): Water is an essential part of every plant and material.
3. Air (Vayu): Air is very powerful source of life.
4. Fire (Agni): It represents light and heat without which the life will extinct.
5. Space (Aakash): It provides shelter to all the four elements above.

There is an invisible and constant relation between all the five elements. Thus the man can improve his conditions by designing his buildings properly, by understanding the effectiveness of these five natural forces.
Vaastu is a science of energy. There are different forms of energies. These forms have various effects on human body. The two types of energy are following.
- Beneficial Energy
- Evil Energy
Vaastu is helpful in reducing the effect of evil energy over the good energy.
Vaastu advises regarding the size and orientation of a structure with respect to the plot, soil, length, breadth and the surroundings. It tells about places and directs the proportions of every detail in building.
