Proper Ventilation

Some years ago sufficient land was available for the construction of houses and people would spend maximum time in open areas near the house. Due to increasing population and abnormal rise in the prices of land, one has to build multi storey house on small plot.
There is a great difference in the styles of working and living habits these days as compared to old days. Now a day people spend maximum time in offices or at working sites. Generally they do not pay attention on proper ventilation during the construction of houses. In some cases it has been observed that house was built with proper drawing and ventilation, but due to rise in family members people modify the house to acquire more space by ignoring proper ventilation. Also pay more attention to ventilation of the kitchen where the house lady spends much time.

Also there is big problem of electricity supply. People suffer from various diseases due to these problems. If you design or modify the house with maximum ventilation by installing proper windows and ventilators which gives more light and fresh air in the building, you can avoid respiratory problems. With abundant fresh air and light, the people residing in the house feel better and remain healthy.

  • Provide maximum ventilation in the East of the building if it might be possible.
  • Keep the minimum area of openings for proper ventilation and lighting excluding door opening more than 10% of the floor area of room.
  • Keep the minimum height of residential building not less than 3 meters.
  • Screen all the openings to prevent insect penetration and provide louvered protection against the entrance of rain and snow.
  • Install Exhaust fan in the kitchen or toilets for proper circulation of the fresh air.
