Aluminum door advantages and disadvantages

Door is essential part of the house or building, as door is a solid barrier fixed in door way or opening in a wall and it provides safety and privacy. It consists of two parts i.e. frame and shutter and can be opened for access to and from buildings, between rooms. According to material doors can be classified as wooden doors, iron doors, PVC or plastic doors and aluminum doors etc, which are available in the market. Now a day’s aluminum doors, windows and glazing are widely used. 

In commercial building aluminum, doors are mostly in use and these are serving the purpose to enhance the beauty of commercial complex according to architect requirement. Aluminum alloy standard extruded sections are used for fabrication of aluminum doors. The chemical composition and mechanical properties of these extruded sections should comply with the requirements of IS 733, IS 1285, IS 737. Aluminum is corrosion resistance and it is inert to Sulphur. Aluminum alloy extruded sections in different forms used in the manufacture of frames and shutters of doors and windows and supports for hand rails, wall facing, partitions and similar other applications, where surface finish is important and medium strength would suffice shall conform to IS733 and IS1285.

There are some advantages and disadvantages of aluminum doors over the other doors as wooden doors and iron doors etc.

Advantages:

Disadvantages

  • Aluminum doors will oxidant. This oxidation appears as white residue and pitting( cavity)
  • Aluminum can be water stained easily.
  • Aluminum can corrode quickly if suitable precautions against electrolysis are not taken.
  • Welding of aluminum requires specialized equipment, hence costly.
