How to Clean Ceiling?

While planning to clean the whole house it’s always better to begin with ceiling followed by dusting off walls, doors, windows, cabinets, furniture, covering utensils and then cleaning floors. Ceiling cleaning is done first to avoid any dust marks on walls, furniture and floors. Homeowners ignore cleaning of ceiling at priority which needs regular cleaning. The cleaning of ceiling is a tough job and depends on the type of ceiling and dust or dirt accumulated on the surface of ceiling. This article tells you some easy tips to clean the ceiling.

Tips for cleaning ceiling

  • Eliminate cobwebs: Cobwebs in corners of rooms make your room look unhygienic. To get rid of cobwebs, make use of cobweb brush. The brush should reach every nook and corner of the ceiling in order to eradicate any traces of cobwebs as some cobwebs are not easily seen.

  • Dust the surface of ceiling: You can use long handled dusters to clean the highest point of the ceilings. Opt for magnetic type of duster to pick up dust for proper cleaning of the surface.

  • Clean areas near vents and light fixtures: The dirt and dust accumulate near vents and fixtures. To clean dirt and dust, utilize vacuum cleaner. You can use the cleaner with long extension, fitted with a soft brush tip.  It will stop dust from spreading all through the room.

  • Utilize damp sweeper to clean oily ceilings: Dirty and oily ceilings of kitchen should be cleaned using damp sweeper which is already treated to clear dust and filth. Take sponge and immerse it into the solution of cleaner and water. Now squeeze the mop and clean the surface to minimize water dripping. Make the surface of ceiling dry to eliminate water spots.

  • Apply sponge mop for wallpaper ceilings: Dip a sponge mop in mild solution of dishwashing detergent and water to clean washable wallpaper ceilings. After squeezing the mop clean the surface to minimize water dripping and instantly wipe the ceiling dry.

  • Utilize vacuum cleaners for textured ceilings: To clean 'spray-on' textured ceilings, make use of a vacuum cleaner having a long extension and fitted with a soft brush tip. If you apply wet or wipe-down cleaning technique, the texture of ceilings will be affected adversely.

Precautions while cleaning ceiling

  • Cover furniture, floors and fixtures with cloths, polythene sheets or any other covering material to protect them from droppings.
  • Avoid using ladder or stool for cleaning instead use long handle device.
  • Always wash ceilings before washing walls and floors to avoid dirt fall on clean walls and floors.
  • Wear rubber gloves with cuff for safeguard of hands while cleaning the ceiling with liquid cleaner.
  • Utilize goggles or cloth to protect eyes while cleaning the ceiling.
  • Ensure that no drips of water or cleaning agent run on the walls.
  • Never rub cobwebs on ceiling or walls for cleaning as it will spoil the finishing leaving ugly marks on the surface.
