There are two steps in the design of a building

  1. Architectural drawing.
  2. Structural drawing.

ARCHITECTURAL DRAWING

Before you design a building it is necessary to have knowledge about some basic information which is given below.

  • Area of plot on which construction is to be done.
  • Type of building - whether Residential or non-residential.
  • Requirement of the client department/ house owner. In case of non residential, whether it is official building or an institutional building.
  • Whether it is single storey or multi storey.
  • Lay out of the area which has information about the north line, entry plot, and position of existing road and surrounding data around the plot and level of the plot.
  • High flood level and floor level of the adjoining building.
  • The ‘Bye Laws’ of the area such as Municipal committees’ laws etc.
  • Position of high tension line and other electricity lines.
  • Weather the building falls on the scheduled road.

STRUCTURAL DRAWING

After architectural drawings, the structural Engineer prepares structural drawing which is given below in detail.

a)      Bearing capacity of the area.

b)      Water level position.

c)      Geographical survey should be available as the building may be in a hilly area, sea shore area or in a heavy wind pressure area.

d)      Architectural appearance.

e)      Type of loading in the building.
