You could choose stainless steel for your backsplash for that modern look. This blends in perfectly with stainless steel appliances and utensils and also compliments any kind of counter top style. Their durability, easy maintenance and heat resistance make them a great material to work with. However, any harsh chemicals, acidic foods or chlorine bleach can harm the surface and it easily retains scratches. You could opt for high grade steel but it would not be cheap.
