Plots which have the Cardinal directions in the corners are known as Diagonal plots. If the plot is tilted by 5 - 20 degrees and factors like quality of soil, favorable surroundings etc are in place we can buy such plots. However the construction in such plots should be along the boundary and not along the cardinal directions. Plots where the tilt is more than 35-45 degrees and have a road on the Northeast side are auspicious. The NW and SE road sides are medium and the SW side plots are okay for certain professions but not for residential use.

what happens when the four cardinal directions fall in the 4 corners of the house rather than on the side if the structure of the house is still as per vastu?

It sounds like you have more vacant land space in south than north. Is that so, if yes, converting that to garden area won't do a vastu correction.
Once,I look at your floor plan I can advise you vastu correction and remedies.
