Mirror pacing is very important. It gives a feeling of openness and also any one entering can have complete look at him/herself. Living room is also good place for mirror but it should not be just in front of the entrance as it will glare a person entering may not be able to see. Thanks

|I wouldn't recommend to place the mirror on the south wall. Think about it: The main entrance to the living room is from North, which is one of the best as very good energies are coming from that direction. If you place the mirror opposite to it on the south wall, you open a space for the negative energies to enter as well as for the positive to exit. South should be as closed as it can be comparing to the North. |
If you still decide to put it on, it should be much smaller than your northern door size!

|Never place a mirror over south wall in a closed room as it reflects the positive energy of luck and earth's magnetic field back to north|
You can place it on the northern wall for 2 main reasons:
1) To reflect the negative energy coming from South as South is well known for YAMA Position.
2)To reflect the wealth which should be kept in south-west of your room

As I understand from your post, Aesthetics is the purpose of you putting the mirror on the south wall. If it is not a necessity change the position as suggested above. If it is a necessity in that case you can place a curtain above it. In today's world of vastu Mirrors are used to create virtual openings in blocked walls.
Also it becomes important, what zone of the flat or bungalow your are adding this virtual opening. Every zone has its importance, for e.g. when you say south, it can be proper south, south west or southeast, So the effects vary on the zone too.
I hope this helps.
