|  Topic: Heat reduction in the top floors
Pls suggest me methods to reduce heat generation in the top floor of a three storied building. I live in a place which is very very hot and humid and AC is quite ineffective during the daytime ( where the summer temperatures can go up to 51 degrees and AC with more power is useless).I have read a lot about sun reflective paint,false ceilings etc etc.Can you suggest me effective solutions for this problem. Hello Dr. Tiwari,
Thermal insulation is a great solution to reduce the heat from outside to inside as it let the temperature remain same over weather changes. Thermal insulation can be done by two methods: Internal or External.

Join date: Aug 2008 | another way, is to have plants cover the roof area. In fact, there are ways to have direct plantings on the roof, but if that is not possible, just have planters with green plants. this will not only reduce the heat, but will clean the air around your house.

I can understand your problem, since I am facing it myself. I live on the top floor of my building and it gets really hot during the summer.We installed an air-conditioner recently, which is proving to be useless as you said.
I think the solution to our problem is Thermal Insulation. We need to somehow keep external heat out and make sure that internal cooling stays within the house.
False ceilings could be a good option. POP false celings are pretty common, but another option is Gypsum Ceiling Panels.
We could also gypsum plaster for finishing the internal walls. Gypsum offers very good thermal resistance and therefore gypsum plasters may help in reducing the amount of heat within the house.
You can find a lot of manufacturers of gypsum plaster in the market. A few of them are Star Gypsum, Shubham Plasters and Saint-Gobain Gyproc
