Solid cement block Vs Bricks

Cement blocks definitely save on space as the width of the cement block is lesser compared to the 9 inch walls so a lot of builders are switching to cement blocks. These blocks are also light weight compared to brick masonry so the dead load is less on the structure. On a high rise building, this reduces the load on the structure. As the blocks are bigger it takes less time to get the wall through these blocks. These blocks are slightly expensive so the upfront cost is a little more and also the blocks usually used in these structures are not 100% solid but have hollow space in between.
