 Topic: Column casting along with retaining wall has been done using stone bricks as shu
Column casting along with retaining wall has been done using stone bricks as shuttering by my contractor (from footing t0 3 feet height). He removes the shuttering stone blocks after 4 hours saying that the column concrete has started to set, and it is ok to remove the blocks. He agrees that for further column casting he will use wooden shuttering.... Will this initial column casting method affect the column strength in any way?. Should I stop work as ask him to using proper wooden shuttering or Centering Sheets?Pls Advise..George

Dear George

            The shuttering should be water tight, strong enough to take the pressure from concrete. It should be strong that take pressure from vibratery forces when we vibrate the concrete mix.. See link below for proper shuttering work/ form work.
