 Topic: Column Size suggested by structural engineer
Dear Sir,

I am gonna construct a  commercial plot having size 35 *55..Now i am gonna construct basement ground and first floor though i want it to be designed for 5 floors like maybe in future,My structural engineer recommended 12*12 column size with  each column having 0.75 inch  6 steel  bars .do you think is it the right size for a column .total no of columns are 15 or 16.Also his designed footing for the columns is 4*4 ft.is this footing  enough??

         From your question I under stand that the design given to you by structural engineer is for basement,ground and first floor. Now you want design for 5 floors. You should contact your structural engineer for revision of drawing design.In my view the present design is not for 5 stories.

Join date: May 2015		No sir structure engineer says that this design is for 5 story building.but i doubt it.i am confused should i go with it or check with some other reputable engineer.plz suggest me what to do...and also is there any need of raft foundation though soil analysis is fine...

Join date: May 2014		The suggestion doesn't seems to be ok for 5 floor building with basement. Its lesser even for a 2-3 floor building. Please change as per the guidelines.
