Topic: SIR,I have made new home and i am staying there for last two months. RCC ground

SIR,I have made new home and i am staying there for last two months. RCC ground floor having single roof. Inner walls are plastered and outer not plastered. I used only wihte cement in side for whitining the inner wall temporaty. Now, I found there are some creaks in plaster specially below the overhead tie beam and adjcent to piller (vertical and horizontal creaks) I have discussed the matter with our contractor he said that due to temparature . At present there is approx. 37 - 38 degree temp at our end. Sir, Please confirm is there any thing for worry. Is it normal ? Should I do anything for these creaks. After 2 - 3 years i will complete the outer wall plaster and inside putty paiting works. So, I want to leave the same at present. Please confirm what to do now. ThanksKajal DutaTinsukia, Assam

If the crack is just along the joint of RCC column and beam with brick work it is happens if the RCC pillar was not chipped properly before joining with brick wall.
Since RCC pillar is cured earlier and surface is smooth bond is not formed properly with mortar at joint. So pillars need to be chipped at surface before constructing wall.

The solution is to remove plaster for around 2-3 inch around the crack for full length,  apply  a wire mesh ( chicken wire mesh) with nails and then plaster.

Dear Sir,

Cracks at the junctions of Brick Walls and RCC slabs

According to the designs/drawings there is change in the material on which plaster is to be done such as brick surface, RCC surface etc.

  • Avoid cracks in case of discontinuity of material (different types of material).
  • Apply a neat cut through the plaster at the junction to prevent cracking of plaster caused by discontinuity of backing, changing from concrete to brick work or changing from wall to ceiling.
  • Make the cut through the plaster not deeper than 6 mm while the plaster is still green (at the finishing of plaster) to keep the wall plaster separate from ceiling plaster.
