 Topic: beam load
My contractor is laying a beam of (9"×16.5") , one side it is supported by by a column but on the other side it is resting on a wall of 4.5", though above wall there is a beam 4.5". The span of beam is 15fts, is it safe to lay(inserted) beam on that 4.5"inch beam. There is no space for 9inch wall or beam . Any suggestions to make it strong?

           To support beam on 4.5'' wall is not safe. It is better to take help from any local civil engineer or structural engineer, who can guide you after visiting the house.

Join date: Sep 2014		Thank you sir for your time. I had one more doubt ,  is it advisable to replace a beam with bottom which has a bottom of 9inch with a flat beam?
