|  Topic: Which type of soil and foundation is recommended for protection of building in earth quake zones?
i have a course work and iam confused about which type of foundation i should use, the soil below the building consists of three layers. the first layer "about 4.5m": topsoil over firm orange brown sandy clay with occasional fine to coarse gravels of quartz and rare brick.
Second layer "2.3 to 2.9m": firm orange brown to red brown slightly gravelly Clay.
Third layer "proven to 20.5m": very weak to moderately weak reddish brown weathered Mudstone with interbedded units of red brown partially weathered sandstone.
the building is steel structure, so which type of foundation i should use "pad or pieling

Before starting construction of building, get the result of bearing capacity of soil from any lab nearby your area and either send the data to us for consultation or take help from any Structural Engineer with respect to bearing capacity of soil.

Necessary to carry out detailed soil investigation at site for require depth depends on type of building constructed.According to the available soil bearing capacity of soil at various depth and ground water table data and seismic zone data of site area, require types of foundation and structural componant can be design and suggested by structural engineer. | | |
