 Topic: water softner
Hello All, 
I have borewell water and corporation water connection to my under construction house. I want to know whether to put different tanks or use a water softner and mix both the water. And also how much would a water softner cost, is it feasible to have one, what would be the maintanance cost of it.

Dear Pallubc

       The water for construction should be tested as per IS3025--1986specially in the frame work building or where RCC is to be used in construction of building. The lab test can give the treatment method and in my view it is not fullproof method use any softner on you own wish. The bore wellwater found some time salty and need treatment but you will be surprised at some places corrporation water is not 100% fit for concrete work. So for betterment the water should be tested.Read the below artical

How to test water and what should be tested
It is recommended that the water is tested through a certified lab. The water should confirm the standard IS: 3025-1986 which is briefly described below.
Limit of Acidity: To neutralize 200 ml sample of water, use phenolphthalein as an indicator. It does not require more than 2 ml 0.1 normal NAOH.
Limit of Alkalinity: To neutralize 200 ml sample of water, use methyl oil as an indicator, it does not require more than 10 ml 0.1 normal HCL
Limit of Solids
Organic: 200 Mg per liter     
Inorganic: 3000. Mg per liter
Sulphate: 400 mg per liter
Chloride: 500 mg per liter for RCC work and 2000 mg per liter for concrete not containing steel.
