Hi,

I am constructing a G+VI residential building. My engineer has provided the structural drawing which has a raised plinth (around 1m above ground level) and Deep Pile Foundation. There is only one beam, that is above the Pile-Caps. Above those tie-beams, the columns goes upto a height of around 4.5 metres till the beams of the ground floor floor roof. The height of the ground floor is 3 m, and 1.5 m below is filled with silver sand from top of Pile-Caps. There is no beam at the plinth level.  Will there be any issue with the absence of plinth beams in this case? 

Also, how high can the columns be given the dimensions vary from 300x500mm to 300x600mm.

Join date: May 2015		If the column is design for 4.5 meter height it is safe. Any height of column is possible to design as long column. normally we will take up to 12 to 15 times of column width but it is not limited to it.
Plinth beam required if you need to place any wall from plinth other wise o.k.
But as per earthquake resistance it is required to design long column very carefully.
its better to provide a lintel on plinth level as per earthquake resistance guide line.

Thank you very much for the answer.

In this case the engineer has started the wall from the beams at NGL, and gone upto the first floor roof. So the height of the wall is around 4.5m, 0.5m being below ground, 1m at Plinth, and 3m height of the ground floor.
