Standard thickness of grout in between concrete blocks in a load bearing wall

What is the standard thickness of grout in between the concrete blocks in wall construction? If the thickness is more, any issues other than usage of more cement and sand?

         The thickness of the mortar joint in the wall should be from 10mm to 12 mm.
    The issue is more thickness beyond limit is weakening the wall strength.
